DIY Magnetic Letter Tiles

Do you need magnetic letters or magnetic letter tiles?  These are an easy way to make your word work more engaging and interactive!

Items to Gather:

  • tiles for letters, blends, digraphs, word family, etc.
  • laminator and laminating film
  • magnetic tape

1. Make boxes of letters, blends, digraphs, and word families according to your needs.  Or, print out mine here.  It includes capital and lowercase letters and blends and digraphs.  It also includes short vowel and various long vowel word families.
2. Laminate the pages and then cut out the pieces.
3. Cut out pieces of magnetic tape and apply to the back.
4. Store the letters in one envelope or bag for students to use independently.  Store by type for teacher instruction.

Other Tips/Suggestions:

I have used these tiles to do making words activities.  I have also used the letter tiles to build segmenting and blending skills with my K and 1 students by changing the word one letter at a time.

How do you plan to use them?
