DIY Fossils

How can you integrate art with Science and Social Studies? Make fossils with your class for a fun, hands-on project. And the best part - they are easy to make for any age!

Items to Gather:

  • 1 cup used coffee grounds
  • 1/2 cup cold coffee
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • waxed paper

1.  Mix all ingredients together to form a "dough."

2.  Roll the dough into balls and push down to form a surface where you will form a fossil imprint.

3.  Press artifacts into the dough to form an imprint. Cookie cutters work well, but you can also let students choose what they would like to use. The snowflake symbol below was created with toothpicks.

4.  Let dough dry on waxed paper for up to two days, or until it hardens.

Hope you enjoy!
